Day 34 (aka running daily log week seven-ish)

Day 34 - Monday, Oct 6, 2025 Notes

  • The gym- we did the strength class again and it wasn’t as hard as last week probably because our instructor had oral surgery and not because we are more fit

  • Stella and LJ Math -we did word problems together and they were both good at them

  • Students worked on their Canva presentations for tomorrow.

  • Our ELA- this unit is almost done and students are almost ready to write papers on Lee Sherman and The Sea Also Rises

  • Botanical Art and EVR combo- students listened to chapter 13 and used colored pencils to sketch a rose. Oh and we got a chance to talk to the Arrow Exterminator guy about what chemical he was spraying and then we looked up the environmental impact of the chemical.

Day 35 - Tuesday, Oct 7, 2025 Notes

  • Creative Writing- rescheduled due to Large number of absences

  • World Religion - presentations on A Thousand Mothers- our rubric contained making seven slides with the seven dimensions of religion from minion smart. One slide per minute for a seven minute presentation no more than 10. Lydia Jane had significant trouble today with presenting. We had Stella go second and then had Lydia Jane rep present. The second presentation went much better. Everyone gave a compliment sandwich. and for our next documentaries, students will film themselves ahead of time giving their presentations. Highlights are making sure there is less text on the slides and that students have flashcards with what they want to say written on them, but hopefully memorized. Jane has been challenged to not use the word, sorry, or you know. We will see how that goes. Probably this year we will give a public speaking credit on our transcripts.

  • We decided the next religion we will study will be one of the Eastern religions-probably Taoism so we will be looking for a fantastic documentary to watch.

  • Classic literature- Watched The Shining. We also discussed the paper that we will be writing about the symbolism of wasps throughout the novel-interestingly enough, the movie did not contain any wasps and we talked about starting our next book which is Women who run with Wolves. We will read the introduction together next week and use our dictionary skills-there are lots of big words and concepts in the introduction.

Day 36 - Wednesday, Oct 8, 2025 Notes

  • LJ Math - Ch 11 Test Review & Reteach some concepts of graphing, plugging, and the shape of nonlinear graphs.

  • Gym - Main Center Gym today. We went upstairs and used the open space with free weights. I think we all took it pretty easy this week and had a really short lifting session and a long stretching session. We should probably get serious soon about keeping a workout journal and learning specific muscle groups and targeted exercises. Beth and Tara went in the sauna while LJ and Stella ran on the treadmills. Stella is getting really comfortable with speed and incline and LJ is cracking the code to her dizziness and doing well.

  • Lunch and Learn- We worked on the first section of “What color is your parachute” as an extension of our last Friday class regarding College and Career Readiness. We answered 10 questions about our preferences for classes and learning styles and had robust discussion. We have filled out one section of our parachute.

  • Science - Still listening to Silent Spring and it’s still depressing. Though today we learned about mitochondria and ATP/ADP as well as cellular respiration. Tomorrow we will watch a crash course biology to make sure we know a little more than the basics on those important subjects.

  • Stella Math - Test review

Day 37 - Thursday, Oct 9, 2025 Notes

  • Stella Math - did problems one through nine on the chapter test

  • ELA - finished up everything we needed to do before we start writing our practice introductions

  • Graphic Design - this week we are taking our roses from earlier in our botanical art class, and we are turning them into some kind of interesting graphic design

  • Latin w/YiYa - Paragraph editing (14-18), historical allusion, subordinate clauses, use of aphorism, participle phrase, appositive, 2 words acting as one, adverbs and adjectives, indirect quotations, gerund phrase, simile, alliteration, irregular comparisons, capitalization of titles, diagramming sentences imperfect tense, study of derivatives, story on Marius and the Civil War with Sulla, conjugations.

  • LJ Math - LJ also took a math test today

Day 38 - Friday, Oct 10, 2025 Notes

-We had an early morning physical for SH so we pushed our starting time to 10 today

-LJ did math with Tara

-Once we were all together we returned the books to the library and got a couple new ones for our world religion class (and listened to Silent Spring on our drives).

-While reading Silent Spring, we heard discussions of endocrine disruptors mitochondria and ATP so when we got home, we watched a crash course video on how mitochondria ATP and Cellular respiration work. basically, we did a biology review spiraling up to more complicated concepts. Students would see in a college biology class so that we could better understand our environmental science text.

-Graphic Design - students digitized the roses they drew earlier in the week.
